ah, politics is in the air. almost time for the unofficial start of the '04 campaign for the white house. my wife and i had a talk about the upcoming election last night. she wanted to know ( i have a degree in poli/sci ) my opinion of bush's chances for election.

a president usually gets more credit than he deserves for the economy and more blame than he deserves for the economy. it's the yin and yang of the job. if the economy is doing well he will win a 2nd term, especially if the democratic field is a weak as it looks.

at the start of the bush term in 2001 his first agenda was to push through a $1.4 trillion tax cut that was supposed to help the economy. it didn't . with 9/11 and the war on terror the american people have given him a mulligan. they won't the second time around. and as you ponder those thoughts check out the news this week:

gotta love satire. as you may have seen in the personal section my favorite website is the onion. but close behind it is the biting blackpeopleloveus.com. now another site has proven itself a worthy addition to this list. check out: rent-a-negro.com i'm just kicking myself that i didn't think of this first.

cubbies still in first place, but man if you ever need a reality check on being a fan of the northsiders howabout this line. trailing by just one run going into the bottom of the eighth, three cubs revliers proceed to give up nine runs. nine runs in the bottom of the eighth!? sigh. Cubs Recap

great weekend out here in the land-o-cheese aka wisconsin. saw "down with love" and "the matrix reloaded". both movies are fantastic and worth your hard earned. tried wisconsin custard for the first time -- oh my -- sooo good -- its better than ice cream. i can see why this is (proudly!) one of the fattest states in the union.

a great article about the whole northbrook hazing incident. sometimes a columnist just hits the nail on the head and all you can say is "amen". Hazing story has legs, so let's wade through the muck.

sarah and i went to our first ball game of the year, and our first game at miller park in downtown milwaukee. what a beautiful park: lots of good concessions, restaurants, easy in/out parking, and walking around saw great sightlines everywhere. right field bleachers only $10. we saw the cubs' zambrano pitch eight great 3-hit innings. with our right field section chanting his name troy o'leary -- filling in for sammy sosa -- smacked a three-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the 8th. great game, great night. saw an old friend, jp who came up from chicago to see the game. and speaking of coming up from chicago. as a writer in the journal sentinel put it: all that's missing is the ivy at wrigley field north." there were so many cubs' fans. they said last night's turnout was the biggest crowd since opening day, and 75% of them were from down I-94 aka chicagoans.

yikes! this is my first post for the merry month of may. been a little crazy out here in the midwest. twisters and unseasonably cold weather have made for some blah days. but its looking like some nice 70's this week, so maybe spring is finally here to stay.

couple weeks ago enjoyed some southern hospitality as my old roomate chris wieland tied the knot in north carolina. a great time had by all, it felt like a college reunion. folks couldn't have been nicer down there, but browsing the web you come across stories of just how much hasn't changed. intergrated prom? or not.
