in undergrad the two sweetest words in the english language were: "free beer". now i'm in law school and the two sweetest words are: "paper extension". that's right. paper deadline for my law skills class has been moved to wednesday instead of monday. of course i'm going to get it done before tuesday night, but it's going to make this weekend a lot less stressful.
all right i said before on this blog, i wasn't going to kick rush limbaugh when he's down. but this onion story is pretty funny:
Limbaugh Says Drug Addiction A Remnant Of Clinton Administration
WEST PALM BEACH, FLFrankly discussing his addiction to painkillers, conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh told his radio audience Monday that his abuse of OxyContin was a "remnant of the anything-goes ideology of the Clinton Administration." "Friends, all I can say is 'I told you so,'" said Limbaugh, from an undisclosed drug-treatment facility. "Were it not for Bill Clinton's loose policies on drug offenders and his rampant immorality, I would not have found myself in this predicament." Limbaugh added that he's staying at a rehab center created by the tax-and-spend liberals.
haven't had much time to blog this week. got a big research paper due monday, and abby & jon are coming down for homecoming this weekend. my goal is to get this paper done by friday so i'm not up late sunday night.

who says there's no such thing as curses?! the yankees are off to their 39th fall classic while the cubs and bo'sox are sitting at home.

i asked this question back in september and its worth pondering again now: "is it better to be a cubs fan and never have known love at all?" no one expected the lil' bears to get this far so fast. i have some great memories of hugging and high-5ing complete strangers in bars wearing cubby blue. i've spent a lot of $$, drank a lot of beer, and have some fun memories that will keep me warm this winter. when's spring training rolling around? just wait till next year.

it'd be easy to talk about the woe and misery in this town after that shocking 8th innning.
well not the wished for rain out, but the next best thing. my paper is due on thursday!! still kinda want a rain out though, the wife is up in milwaukee tonight and she really wants to be in chicago when the cubs win the pennant.
a cold wet rainy day here in chicago. feeling a little nervous about the cubs. i got a paper due tomorrow. sigh. i'm secretly hoping for a rain out.

it's all in prior's hands right now. feeling pretty confident we're gonna win this thing at home tomorrow night. but just how crazy was this weekend? take a listen to the cubs fever sweeping the city. the only cure for this fever is a world series.

i'm not gonna kick rush limbaugh when he's down. the man just came out today and admitted his addiction to painkillers. which goes to show -- too those that ignore the facts -- drug addiction crosses all races, genders, economic classes, and political parties. limbaugh said he's going into rehab and i hope he gets the help he needs. but i also hope if and when he returns to the public stage he shows some new insight and compassion to the millions of non-violent drug offenders that fill our nation's prisons. the same rehab afforded to him and president bush's niece would be nice alternative.

an electrocardiogram of a chicago cubs' fan last night, would not be a pretty thing. maybe we should just all stop drinking beer and start taking ritalin to deal with the wild mood swings this team is taking us on. up four runs in the first, then down two runs in the 9th; and all the looniness in between; a marlin onslaught in the 3rd; a not that overweight guy with the nick name pudge; a bull pen that makes you reach for valium. sammy sosa is an over paid, choke artist! HOLY COW!! two run shot in the ninth!! sammy sosa is the man, i'm naming my first born kid sosa! and so the night went on and on. if this game was a roller coaster at great america, it'd be banned for too many hills & loops. you gotta realize cubs fans ain't used to this sort of october baseball madness. lots of fun hanging out at barleycorn with some law school folks and shoes. gotta do it again.
and in other news ah'nold is the new governor of our largest state. i wish him well he inherits a state facing huge problems and a lot of people are depending on him for results. republicans that are celebrating his victory would be wise to remember that this election, more than representing a repudiation of davis should be a wake up call to all incumbents. the voters are mad at this economy and they're ready to take out anyone in office deemed responsible. bush & company better hope the next year brings some better economic news, or they'll be joining davis out of office.

cubs v. braves tied up. but the real sports news today is rush limbaugh and his comments about philly qb, donovan mcnabb. from a column by philadelphia inquirer columnist, phil sheridan:
Limbaugh's idea of commentary Sunday involved an absurd attack on Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and on "the media" that have overrated him because "the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There's interest in black quarterbacks and coaches doing well." McNabb, Limbaugh said, isn't "as good as everyone says he has been."
Here's your mistake, Rush. You stepped out of your radio comfort zone, where "Dittoheads" either echo your twisted view of America or you can cut them off. You stepped into a place where your bluff - and that's all it ever has been - is easily called.
