i got two tickets to paradise!

yeah the title of this post is an eddie money song, but it kinda fits the occasion. i woke up this morning, called and got 2 tickets for U2. they're playing four sold out shows at the united center in may. my buddy, grant, and i are going to the second show. our tickets -- the general admission kind i.e. the cheapest and the best seats in the house. if we get there early enough that means we can bogart our way to the front row. i can't stop smiling right now.

thanks for the memories

along with the death of rodney dangerfield last year, carson's passing marks an end of an era. together they were the unofficial godfathers of standup comics in america. perhaps only lorne michaels of saturday night live has had as much of an impact. but even michaels would acknowledge carson as the late night king.

"does anybody here know spongebob?"

it just brings to mind the immortal words of jack welch to joe mccarthy. "at long last sir have you no sense of decency?"
yesterday dr. james dobson, founder of focus on the family assailed the "pro-homosexual agenda" of the cartoon character sponge bob along with barney, blue's clues, and clifford the big red dog. read all about it:

the winter of our discontent

i would have posted a LOT earlier but i'm having some problems blogging on the mac @ school. everyone and their brother has an i-pod these days and still the discrimination!

anyway its snowing here the wind is howling and GW is taking the oath of office for the 2nd time. sigh. the winter of our discontent indeed.

can we make a rule that your 2nd inaugural can't be such a big deal and cost?! i mean it's like someone getting married for the 2nd time; you might spend some money but you don't go ALL out for it. democrat or republican 2-termers congrats: take the oath, have ONE innagural ball and then get your ass back to work.

snowed in watching movies. . .

so i've been enjoying a pretty lazy vacation. seeing lots of movies: sideways and the aviator. sarah and i also got a blockbuster pass that let us rent up to 2 movies @ time for month of december w/no late fees for only $15. we figured if we even rented three movies in december the pass basically paid for itself. did it ever.

we (or sometimes just me) rented and watched: city of god, i robot, dodgeball, hero, angels in america, garden state, and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. whew! i'm tired just reciting that list. more details on my favorites:

city of god - this came out last year and sarah and i have always wanted to rent it and its always been out or something else came up. kicking myself for taking so long. WOW! flatout one of the best films you will EVER see. that's all you need to know. it has subtitles but 15 minutes in and you're hooked. be sure to check out the documentary bonus in the dvd.

hero - like the aforementioned always out @ out video store. what can i say the folks that live in our hood have good taste. think crouching tiger hidden dragon beauty with a great story line.

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind - let me qualify this by saying first that i can't stand jim carey. if he's in a movie i won't see it flat out. but the charlie kaufman script, the rave reviews, i relented. i'm glad it did. what a mind trip, what a script. its a romantic comedy for people that have brains.
