INVITES

i guess i should really backtrack here and give credit where credit is due. the whole thing started with dave eckstein's thin man party. what a blast. we dubbed it the 'social event of the year' and in some ways it really was. everyone dressed up in suits, the ladies were in cocktail dresses, fresh out of college this was pretty classy stuff.

but what the hell does it have to do with invitations? well you gotta remember this was pre evite.com days. you might get an email about a party but the whole concept of going online and checking out the guest list etc. etc. hadn't occured to anyone -- but dave made this really cool email invitation. well that inspired us. so when chris wieland and i threw our first party at we wanted something similar but cooler.

with the help of the very talented george eckart we had some fun making invitations to all our parties and they are worth a peek.

small pulp fiction invite
this is the one that started it all. a quick scan of the video box cover, some digital pictures of me and chris, and eckart went to work. the names at the top are among the many friends that were invited. check out "the gold watch" credit.
small lethal weapon invite
round 2 almost a year later. in some ways this one is even better as we lift all the tag lines from the original poster and incorporate in the invite. all done again by george eckart.
small tribune invite
i took this picture at one of our parties of (l to r, tom simon, craig parshall, and george eckart) tom's eyebrow, craig's lean, george's "yeah right" expression. they looked like a 'take no prisoners' rock band. i used the akbar font (simpsons) for date and time and knew this would make a great looking invitation.
small oscar invite
our oscar party. there's a lot going on here so look closely. chris' adaptive face is haley joel osment, marlon brando, and tippy hedren. i settled for just sticking my face next to jack's with the same expression.
small vegas invite
viva las vegas sang the king! ain't it the truth. i was a long time fan of the original rat pack classic. when the clooney remake came out it neatly coincided with my first trip out to vegas for my bachelor send off. this image w/the names of the some of the crew went around our email chain.
